If you were to mash up Bertolucci's "Last Tango in Paris" with John Waters "Pink Flamingos", you would have this book. Like "Last Tango" you have a torrid love affair, and like "Pink Flamingos" you have people who don't have much in the way of caring for others, and some outrageous, scatological humor.
The combination of film satire, fast moving plot, and vivid, lively characters, makes for a real page turner. The ending is a bit of a shock, but if you've seen "Last Tango in Paris", it's not much of a shock at all.
There's a lot of tasteless graphic sex in this book. If you like the early punk films of John Waters, you'll understand the novel's salacious sections are meant as very edgy humor.
If John Waters disgusts you, then you might not enjoy this read. If you love John Waters, then you might find the book funny AF. I really enjoyed reading it.
